The Education Services Department (ESD) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning by providing support services, facilitating student development, and promoting equitable access to education across all levels. The Department coordinates specialized programs, manages educational resources, and ensures the implementation of critical curriculum standards.
The ESD focuses on the holistic development and well-being of students through specialized programs and support systems:
Student Development: Organizing and promoting academic activities such as Debates and Quiz Competitions and facilitating School Sports.
Guidance and Wellness: Providing Guidance and Counselling services, coordinating School Health initiatives, and promoting Education for Health and Well-being.
Inclusion and Equity: Managing programs for Special Education/Gifted Children and overseeing the welfare and educational needs of Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
Gender and Adult Education: Championing Women Education and Gender Equality and running Adult and Non-Formal Education programs.
Special Initiatives: Coordinating the School Meal Program, the Back to School Program (BOYS), and promoting Food and Nutrition Engagement of youth and women in agriculture.
The Department is responsible for the development, distribution, and monitoring of instructional materials and curriculum standards:
Resource Management: Managing the Educational Resource Center and overseeing School Libraries.
Materials Production: Facilitating the production of teaching materials and aids.
Curriculum Oversight: Collecting and distributing the Basic Education Curriculum, conducting periodical book reviews, and monitoring the curriculum and the approved list of textbooks for compliance in schools.
Language and Safety: Promoting International Language Unity and coordinating the Safe School Response initiative.
The ESD actively collaborates with internal and external bodies to achieve its mandate:
Community Engagement: Engaging with the Parents, Students/Pupils, and Teacher Association (SBMC).
National Initiatives: Coordinating state-level participation in Network of Education Services Center in Nigeria (NESCON) activities and implementing the goals of Education for All (EFA).
Professional Development: Organizing and facilitating Workshops and Seminars for educational stakeholders.
