DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

The Science, Technical, and Higher Education (STHE) Department is charged with a comprehensive set of respons responsibilities aimed at advancing technical and vocational education, ensuring quality standards, and coordinating academic activities across the state.

Oversight and Quality Assurance - The Department maintains rigorous oversight of educational institutions and programs to ensure compliance and high standards:

Inspection and Establishment: Conducting inspection and establishment of both public and private Science, Technical, and Vocational Schools across the state.
TEVT Centre Scrutiny: Inspecting proposed Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TEVT) Centres to authorize their operation.
Federal Liaison: Representing the state in all matters pertaining to Federal Technical Schools.
Credential Verification: Handling the verification of certificates and results issued by technical and vocational institutions.

Curriculum and Examination Management

The Department plays a key role in teacher education and the administration of critical state and national examinations:

Teacher Education: Managing all matters related to Technical Teachers Education.
Examination Collaboration: Collaborating with the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) in the conduct of various technical examinations.
Entrance Examinations: Working with the Examination Development Centre to conduct entrance examinations for admission into state Special Science Schools.

To foster holistic development and strong partnerships, the Department engages with various stakeholders and coordinates student activities:

Student Competitions: Organizing and facilitating student participation in academic and extra-curricular events, including Quizzes, Debates, and Sports Competitions at both the National and International levels. 🏆
Association Liaison: Managing matters related to professional bodies such as the Science/Mathematics Association, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Science Teachers Association, and the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI).
The Department also executes any other duties that may be assigned to it by the relevant authorities.
